The 5th Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting of the ICAR-KVK Longding,
Kanubari has been conducted today the 21st Feb.,2025 with Shri Gabirel D. Wangsu, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture,
Veterinary, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development, Consumer Affairs, Civil Supplies and Legal Metrology, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh
as the Chief Guest, Shri Kunal Yadav (IAS), ADC Kanubari as the Guest of Honour and Prof. Lobsang Wangsu, Head, Regional Centre, ICAR
Research Complex for NEH Region, A. P. Centre, Basar as the Chairman of the meeting. Dr. V. K. Mishra, Director, ICAR-RC-NEH Region,
Umroi Road, Umiam enlightened the gathering with his valuable suggestions and views to work for the welfare of the farmers of Longding
district with the full co-operation of the Hon’ble Minister to bring up his brainchild to better heights in order to serve the needy farmers
sincerely with dedication and devotion through hybrid mode, Dr. S. Basanta Singh, Nodal Officer of KVKs, ICAR-RC-NEH Region, Umiam and Dr. Bagish Kumar,
Scientist, ATARI, Zone-VI, Guwahati have joined the meeting in hybrid mode. The Scientific Advisory Committee members viz. Dr. Ojoli Moyong (DVO Longding),
Smt. Munu Ngurang (DAO Longding), Shri Moidan Haque Choudhury (DHO Longding), Shri Yab Nanu Camdir (DFDO Longding) and Miss Jonjing Wangjen (BMM, ArSRLM, Kanubari)
with the participation of progressive farmers namely Shri Wanfyak Wangsu, Smt. Nyalai Wangsa and Shri Jaman Wangsu.
At the outset, Shri G. D. Wangsu, Hon’ble Minister enlightened the gathering with the New
Agriculture Policy of the state under which the various activities for the enhancement of agricultural production and productivity will be
emphasized and other developmental works will be carried out and the farmers will be given top priority on capacity building to develop their
skill in different aspect. Apart from agricultural sector, he emphasized on Horticulture, Fishery and Animal Husbandry sector also for the enhancement
of production and productivity with the intervention of the ICAR-KVK Longding. He further stressed on production of short duration varieties of paddy to
accommodate the second crop of oilseeds and maize so as to increase the cropping intensity as well as to improve the livelihood of the farmers. In addition
to this he suggested to promote the location specific breeds of pig, cattle and goat which are suitable to the local situation. Lastly, Shri Wangsu suggested
to work in co-ordination with the line departments to develop the district with dedication and sincerity.
Shri Kunal Yadav, IAS, ADC Kanubari also highlighted the importance of the KVK for the enhancement of the production
and productivity of crops through which the improved technologies suited with the local situation will be showcased to the farmers.
Prof. Lobsang Wangsu, Head, Regional Centre, ICAR, A. P. Centre, Basar being the Chairman of the technical session highlighted
the objectives of organizing Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting through which the action plan for the ensuing year are discussed thoroughly and finally approved seeing the
local situation and problems of the farmers in the production system in different aspects.
In the technical session, Dr. Utpal Kumar Bhattacharyya, Sr. Scientist Cum Head, ICAR-KVK Longding presented the annual
progress report of 2024-25 in which the achievements of different disciplines were highlighted and discussed in details. And the presentation of the Action Plan for the year
2025-26 was initiated by Shri A. Kirankumar Singh (Chief Technical Officer, Agronomy) followed by Dr. Tilling Tayo (ACTO, Animal Science), Shri Vikas (SMS, Vegetable Science),
Dr. B. Srishailam (SMS, Agril. Extn.), Dr. Amit Kumar (SMS, L & WM Engg.) and Dr. Deep Narayan Mishra (SMS, Plant Pathology) and discussed in details about the activities to be
carried out in the next year. Lastly, Dr. Tilling Tayo (ACTO, Animal Science) the 3 progressive farmers namely Shri Akot Arngham, Shri Jaba Wangjen and Shri Choiwang Wangham were awarded by the Hon’ble Minister.
